The Hero’s Journey is a shared experience

We all have heroes. From sporting gods to business tycoons there are those we admire for their ability to rise to the top of their game or profession. They receive the best of both: societal rewards for their efforts and the accolades of the masses.

There are other heroes who walk among us every day. The people who struggle with their lot in life yet get on with it without complaint.

And then there’s the personal heroes in our own story. Those who take your call when it isn’t convenient or they could excuse themselves for ignoring it. Those who call you and check in to make sure things are alright in your world. The ones who drop round and bring joy, are always there and even when they can’t be they make sure they connect soon after.

These are the real heroes because for them there is no tangible obvious reward. To everyone who is, has been, and will one day be there for me, thank you … you are my hero.

Take a moment to reflect on the heroes in your life and next time you get a chance to tell them what they mean to you, the difference it made and how it makes you feel, share it with them. They will appreciate it.

And … if you see someone who looks like they need a hero, step up. The hero space isn’t saturated, there’s always room for one more. It could be you, it’s not a full-time job, sometimes a simple ‘hello’ can make all the difference.
